Sean O'Driscoll's attempts to boost his goal-shy strike force seem unlikely to be successful if yesterday's Yorkshire Post is to be believed. They indicate that Vokes is likely to head to Leeds United after Rovers were priced out of any prospects of a loan move.
O'Driscoll is quoted as saying: "We were talking to Sam but so where many other clubs. Finances are the dictating factor in football at this minute in time and we were out of the market."
The Rovers boss then pointed out that Rovers still have six strikers on the books, but recognises that the team have to score more goals if they are not to struggle this season. He said: "We have got to score more goals – any man in the street can tell you that, but to score goals, you have got to create chances. We got many attributes right today but people pay millions of pounds for strikers. Getting beaten when you have outplayed the opposition is a common theme with us. I will take that performance every day but the result is a disappointment. Sometimes you are in the lap of the gods. If you don't take your opportunities, especially in a local derby, you give the opposition a chance."
